• Our apologies for last week’s programme on the 450th Anniversary of the Reformation beginning nine minutes late and being cut off nine minutes from the end, due to technical problems at the station. We return this week to the usual news-based magazine format.
• In the wake of the World Cup in South Africa, we hear of the work of the Baptist Missionary Society in South Africa. Dan Pratt tells us of work in the townships and we hear of the effects for good in South Africa of the World Cup.
• We take a look at “Magnificat”, the book of prayers and music for the week of the Pope’s visit to Britain, all the way from Holyrood and Bellahouston to London and Birmingham. Susan Boyle is only one example of the music which will surround the visit.
• Frances Robson tells us of her visit to “The Gospel at Colonnus” – and its joy contrasting with dreary church services – at the official Edinburgh Festival and “Caledonia” at the Fringe.
• John Cameron reviews “A Heart on Fire” written by Anneka Spalda published by Wild Goose Publications at £9.99. It moves from mysticism to peace camps.
• We talk to the Reverend Scott McKenna about the Festival of Meditation and Prayer and the whole series of events during September at the Church of Scotland parish of Mayfield Salisbury in Edinburgh. Details of the festival which begins on September 3rd on www.MayfieldSalisbury.org
• We pay tribute to the Reverend Gordon Strachan, the Church of Scotland minister once at the Netherbow, with an excerpt from a programme in 1985 where he talks of his doctorate work on the Charismatic Movement and Edward Irving.
