Bus boss: It is however a necessary step to ensure we safeguard services as best we can and continue to invest in the quality of our operation and our environmental objectives.
Bosses at Lothian Buses are blaming Government funding cuts and rising operating costs for their decision to increase fares.
From 4th March, the price of an adult single will go up by 10p to £1.40 while the charge for a daysaver ticket will rise by 30p to £3.50.
A four week Ridacard, which currently costs £48, will rise to £51.
Student, child, Airlink and nightbus fares are not affected.
Lothian Buses Managing Director, Ian Craig said: "We endeavour to keep ticket prices as low as possible but this is an extremely challenging time for everyone.
"As with the majority of public transport providers, we have had to review our prices as a result of Government funding cuts and rising operating costs.
"We know price increases are never welcome and this decision has not been taken lightly.
"It is however a necessary step to ensure we safeguard services as best we can and continue to invest in the quality of our operation and our environmental objectives."
