Woman hurt in sheltered housing fire

A woman suffered smoke inhalation and burns when a blaze broke out in a sheltered housing complex in Edinburgh on Sunday night.

Around 30 firefighters were called to the scene in Woodthorpe sheltered housing centre in Redford Road at around 8.50pm.

A 64-year-old woman was rescued and given treatment at the scene before she was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Other residents were evacuated until the fire was extinguished and the building vented.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
