The Best of Scottish with Kenny

Story Highlight

Prior to ‘The Best of Scottish’, Kenny presented the jazz/swing/easy programme ‘The Lounge’ on Forth 2 for five years.

Kenny Hutchison began his musical journey as an accordionist, playing ceilidhs and accordion clubs around Scotland as a youngster. He held residencies in a number of prominent ceilidh venues during this time, before heading off to music college via clubland. Historically, he was the first person to sit ‘0’grade music on the accordion, back in the day!

Kenny went on to become a music teacher, multi-instrumentalist, vocal coach and choir director, and broadcaster, including time spent as a full-time DJ on stations such as Northsound, BBC Radio Scotland, Scot FM and WLSD in Virginia, USA . He is currently Head of Junior School Music at Loretto School.

Prior to ‘The Best of Scottish’, Kenny presented the jazz/swing/easy programme ‘The Lounge’ on Forth 2 for five years. His musical interests go far beyond Scottish music, and he has played with some successful bands and musicians over the years, including a tour of Japan with 70’s superstars ‘Pilot’.

Kenny was once hired to teach Dame Judy Dench to play the piano for her part as Queen Victoria in the Oscar-nominated film ‘Mrs. Brown’.

Apart from his interest in, and knowledge of Scottish Music, Kenny is also a busy musical director, session musician, record producer and band leader- his band THE FLAVOURS have been the resident band at Jools Holland’s Jamhouse in Edinburgh since it opened in 2005, and they play to 1000 party people every Friday and Saturday night.

In a previous life on the Scottish scene, Kenny has opened for Will Starr, Dermot O’Brien, The Tartan Lads and The Alexander Brothers, and in 2004 he played piano for a year in the legendary Jim Johnstone’s band for a season of resident nightly ceilidhs at the King James Hotel.

Kenny is married to Arlene Stuart, who co-presents the breakfast show with Boogie on Forth One
